You're right, V. Thanks. I will indeed make those adjustments. Don't worry, I'm bringing Zai Tian on the scene quite soon. I find his character harder to understand--he was so mercurial in the series, so changeable. More soon.

Some possible revisions:
a) Hao mama suddenly blurting out "it's all your fault" when she's had opportunity to voice it before is believable, but I'd preface it with something like "'XYZ', she suddenly burst out as if she'd been holding onto this scrap of resentment for days".
b) "dui bu qi" is a bit colloquial, "真的很抱歉／zhen de hen bao qian" would be more formal and likely.
c) major error: the interpol agent who seduced Ying Xiong was called "Lei Mu Sha", as I recall, not Cheng Yuan.

Otherwise very good, excellent cliffhanger, I think CJ's right in that you've found your voice (your mostly unadorned, analytical style really suits Ying Xiong's character). Are you planning to have it from his point of view the whole time, though? Some Zai Tian cheekiness could be good to throw in by way of contrast.

Thanks, kolontai.
I'm planning to write two more episodes over the next two weeks, then I'll go back to local history and birdwatching for awhile. Then I have an additional four shorts eps planned.
Meanwhile, there's a feature film in the works that will be a sequel to the series, but I've heard that the start of filming has been delayed to perhaps June. The writers are reconfiguring the script: it will be interesting to see how slashy it gets!

I might just incorporate a few of your suggestions on my customary rewrite. I wonder if I can make the drugs investigation serious, but the slashy relationship funny? That's what 'the canon' manages to do, after all.
I wonder how many readers will notice I borrowed the HK thug, 'Mr Hua' from Magicians of Love as the informant. Well, ok, it was a character a bit reminisent of Hua...

*giggle*
Not sure what tone you were aiming for with the whole piece -- just as I thought it was getting serious, it came out like parody.
And would Da Yan Ge really still be helping Zai Tian via the fax machine? I'd gotten the impression he was only doing it because he genuinely believed Zai Tian was Lao Tou's son.
I thought the informant thing happened a bit too quickly -- draw it out, or give Ying Xiong more reason to think this was the informant rather than a lost Hong Kong tourist.
Also I think the picture would be better at the start, like a banner for this episode or the series. Your description of the photo is close enough that you don't need to put it in the middle of the text for your readers to know what you're talking about.
And as this is the first of a projected series, I'd leave this episode on more of a cliff-hanger; i.e. "An hour later when Ying Xiong stepped into Hao Ke's room in the specialist convalescence facility, he found him drained of colour and breathing in ragged shreds of DOOM". Y
ou know what I mean.

Would you be interested in seeing your work about local places syndicated on local news blogs? See <a href="http://indolentdandy.net/innernorth/" rel="nofollow">Inner North</a> for example. Over 300 local bloggers are already contributing. There’s no advertising and no exploitation of your content - just a convenient way for local people to read local news. To contribute please add suburb categories, tags or labels to all of your relevant posts, such as ‘Northcote’, ‘Brunswick’, etc and let me know you’ve done this. RSS feeds for these tags are created and added to the local news sites. You should find that syndication brings more traffic to your blog and more comments from readers!
